Jakarta (ANTARA) - Around 215 patients were receiving treatment at Jakarta’s Wisma Atlet Kemaroyan emergency hospital, set up to handle COVID-19 cases, as of March 26, said officials.

"The updated number of patients in the emergency hospital is per 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 26," said Brigadier General M Saleh, Deputy Commander of the Integrated Joint Task Force at Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital in a statement received on Thursday in Jakarta.

He informed there were 124 male and 91 female patients undergoing inpatient care at the hospital.

The patients include 14 persons who tested positive for COVID-19, 44 persons placed under surveillance (ODP), and 157 patients under monitoring (PDP).

The medical team at the Coronavirus Handling Emergency Hospital began accepting patients from Monday, March 23.

The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and several other agencies, including the National Police and the military forces, converted four of Wisma Atlet's seven towers into the emergency hospital.

At the initial stage, the emergency hospital will serve around 1,600 patients. Its capacity will then be extended to handle 3,000 COVID-19 cases. The hospital is intended to treat approximately 22,000 people eventually. (INE)
