We will sanction companies that continue to operate during the imposition of PSBB.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan spoke of imposing sanction against companies that continue to operate during the implementation of the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) in the capital city.

"We will sanction companies that continue to operate during the imposition of PSBB. Companies that are not exempt from the restriction should manage their employees to work from home," Baswedan noted here on Wednesday.

Baswedan remarked that means of mass transportation are still crowded with passengers despite the imposition of PSBB, as several companies have continued to operate.

The administration will need to adopt stern measures against those companies to ensure the effective implementation of PSBB.

"We have to ensure that all parties that break the rule will face sanctions, ranging from revocation of license and other sanctions," Baswedan noted, adding that the PSBB is being imposed to protect all citizens.

"We are protecting all people by reducing activities and stressing on staying at home. I really hope this would be followed, so we do not have to impose any sanction," he stated.

Baswedan is upbeat about the PSBB not being extended. "The more we impose this with discipline, the faster it (PSBB) will end," the governor emphasized.

"However, the less disciplined we are, this will last longer. We want to end this (the PSBB) soon, so we have to be disciplined," he stated.

The Jakarta administration has imposed PSBB for a 14-day period, effective from April 10 to 23, 2020.

The imposition was based on Governor Regulation No. 33 of 2020 on PSBB issued by Baswedan in a bid to contain the coronavirus transmission.

In addition to Jakarta, other regions, including Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, and Pekanbaru, already have the Health Ministry's approval to impose the restriction.
