Jakarta (ANTARA) - An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 hit Minahasa District, North Sulawesi Province, early Sunday but it did not potentially cause a tsunami, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The epicenter of the quake which struck at 00:45 a.m. was in the sea about 113 kilometers southeast of Ratajan Mitra, in Minahasa at a depth of 10 kilometers, the agency said on its official website..

There was no immediate report of material damage and casualties.

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale is considered moderate and capable of causing considerable damage.
