A total of 17 deaths have been recorded.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 17 foreign nationals in Indonesia died of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 infection, according to the Foreign Ministry.

"A total of 17 deaths have been recorded," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated during a virtual media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to the Foreign Ministry’s data, the Indonesian government has identified a total of 569 COVID-19 cases involving foreign nationals in the country as of Wednesday (April 29).

Of the total, 94 have tested positive for COVID-19, 306 are people under surveillance, and 149 have recovered, while 17 have died of the virus, and the status of three other COVID-19 cases had yet to be confirmed.

Marsudi remarked that the Foreign Ministry had maintained constant communication with embassies of the foreign nationals diagnosed with COVID-19 in Indonesia to keep them abreast of their health condition.

Indonesia reported 9,771 people diagnosed with coronavirus as of Wednesday (April 29, 2020), of which 1,391 recovered, 7,596 are receiving treatment, and 734 have died of the virus.

The Indonesian government officially announced the country's first confirmed cases on March 2, 2020. The central and regional governments have since then made persistent efforts to flatten the coronavirus curve by imposing healthcare protocols and social restrictions.

To break the chain of COVID-19 transmission, large-scale social restrictions have been enforced in several cities, including Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Pekanbaru.

The central government has also banned homebound travel, locally known as “mudik,” during the fasting month of Ramadhan and the Idul Fitri holiday season. Related news: Baswedan to distribute 20 million free masks to Jakarta citizens
