Jokowi installs Boy Rafli as new head of BNPT

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) installed Inspector General Boy Rafli Amar, as head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), who succeeded Commissioner General Suhardi Alius.

Boy Rafli served as the BNPT head based on Presidential Decree No. 86/TPA 2020 on Dismissal and Appointment of BNPT Head, dated May 5, 2020.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State Palace, here, Wednesday, in which the attendees by limited invitation comprised some 20 people including Indonesian National Police Chief Gen. Idham Azis, former BNPT Chief Suhardi Alius, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Mahfud MD, and Minister/State Secretary Pratikno.

Earlier, National Police Chief Gen. Idham Azis had appointed Boy Rafli Amar as the BNPT head to replace Alius.

The appointment was stipulated in Telegram Letter Number: ST / 1377 - 1378 / V / Kep / 2020, dated May 1, 2020, which was signed by Deputy Chief of National Police Gatot Eddy Pramono, on behalf of the National Police Chief.

Alius was transferred to serve as the strategic policy analyst of the Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim).

Born on March 25, 1965, Amar began his career in 1988 in the Central Jakarta Police.

The earlier positions he held included Banten Police chief in 2014, head of the National Police's Public Relations Division in 2016, and Papua Police chief in 2017.
