Jakarta (ANTARA) - North Jakarta Mayor Ali Maulana Hakim has said the Jakarta provincial government has yet to issue an order to close tourist attractions in North Jakarta as an anticipatory measure to curb Omicron transmission.

"Until now, there has been no regulation to close tourist attractions. The policy is at the provincial level. Should there be such regulation, we will support provincial policies to save all residents," Hakim remarked here on Friday.

The mayor said that the North Jakarta government has taken two anticipatory measures against Omicron—tightening health protocols and expediting vaccinations.

Currently, North Jakarta is focusing on vaccinating children aged 12 and above and 6–11, he informed.

"In the (age group of) 12 and over, the (vaccination) rate has reached 81 percent of the total population. As for children 6–11 years old, the process is still ongoing in schools. Based on Civil Registry Service Office data, there are 204,009 children aged six to 11 years old targeted for vaccination," the mayor informed.

He also stated that the health protocols in North Jakarta would be imposed according to the regulations for Level 1 community activities restrictions since Jakarta currently has that status.

However, the Jakarta Governor has appealed to the people to not celebrate Christmas and New Year in a way that could create crowds, he noted.

"So, instead of prohibiting celebrations, we are advised not to gather masses. We will inform people of this appeal," he added.

Recently, a staff at Kemayoran Athlete's Village was found positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin informed there were five more probable cases of Omicron in the country. Two of them were Indonesians who recently arrived from the United States and Britain, while the remaining were Chinese nationals visiting Indonesia.
