Cisarua, Bogor (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy has said he is optimistic that national vaccination coverage will reach 70 percent before the end of 2021.

"According to the President's order, by the end of the year, 70 percent of Indonesians must be (vaccinated). Just now, there are 50 (COVID-19 vaccination programs) initiated by the national defense force and police force. I am optimistic that the target set by the President can be realized," he remarked in Bogor district, West Java, on Thursday.

He said that his optimism was due to the smooth conduct of vaccinations, without any problems.

"Today, (I) reviewed the vaccination program in Cisarua. Everything went well. We thank you for the hard work, Mister National Police Chief and the Commander of National Defense Force and all their staff," Effendy added.

National Police chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who was also present at the review, said that although first dose vaccinations have reached 72 percent and second dose vaccinations have been pegged at 40 percent, the police force is still trying to boost the vaccination rate, given the emergence of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.

Prabowo assured that defense and police personnel and health workers have created posts to support the expedition of vaccinations in tourist areas during the year-end holidays.

"We have prepared vaccine outlets in the rest areas, we have also prepared security posts. When the PeduliLindungi application detects people who have not been vaccinated, or have only had one dose of vaccine, or have been confirmed positive, we will provide (countermeasures)," he remarked.

The personnel will seek to inoculate people who are traveling but are yet to be vaccinated and isolate people confirmed positive for the virus, he said.
