The government has prepared new entry points not only in Jakarta but also in Juanda (Surabaya) and other areas to function as quarantine centers.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has readied several places to function as entry points and quarantine centers for international travelers, a senior minister stated.

"The government has readied new entry points not only in Jakarta but also in Juanda (Surabaya) and other areas to function as quarantine centers," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto noted during an online press conference on Monday.

In addition, the government has readied quarantine centers at cross-border checkpoints in West Kalimantan and East Kalimantan for citizens travelling to Indonesia by land.

The same facilities will also be made available to people traveling to Indonesia by sea via Batam, and Tanjung Pinang, he confirmed.

The international travelers comprise Indonesian migrant workers, students and university students, and government officials, who have just arrived from abroad, foreign nationals, and diplomats.

The press conference was called to announce the results of a limited meeting held to evaluate the enforcement of pubic activity restrictions (PPKM). Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan was also present at the press conference.

Panjaitan spoke of the government having decided to slash the quarantine period from 10-14 days to 7-10 days on account of the declining number of cases of the Omicron variant in the country.

The minister noted that 23 percent of the 152 patients had recovered from the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

"I think the figure is still better as compared to that of other countries," he stated.

After all, the government has stayed alert to the Omicron variant by stepping up vaccinations and preparing medicines, hospitals, and healthcare workers.
