Jakarta (ANTARA) - The development of human resources (HR) must continue even as Indonesia makes efforts to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno has said.

"These human resources must have skills that are in accordance with the new era of tourism. They must have quality and sustainable tourism capabilities based on nature and culture," he remarked while inspecting the construction site of the Manado State Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar), in Kalasey Dua Village, Minahasa District, North Sulawesi, according to a press statement issued here on Wednesday.

The development of the polytechnic, said the minister, is meant to create quality human resources in North Sulawesi as well as stimulate the economy and create jobs.

The polytechnic will accommodate 2,500 students and is expected to become a center of excellence, or a center for the study and training of science and competence, he added.

Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, said that the Bali Tourism Polytechnic will supervise the development of the polytechnic in Manado.

"In the first phase, we will conduct distance learning while waiting for the construction of the building, and of course, the construction of this school is in accordance with the national policy for the development of human resources as a whole. So, we are also part of the national development of vocational schools focused on the tourism sector," said Adnyani.
