Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, on Monday highlighted the potential of golf tourism to support economic recovery.

The potential of golf tourism is scattered across a number of areas such as Jakarta, Bogor, and Bandung in West Java, Surabaya in East Java, Bintan and Belitung in the Riau archipelago, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry said in a statement issued here on Monday.

"We really support this activity, especially because the fundraising results of this activity will be channeled to social activities, thus opening up business opportunities and opening up the widest possible employment opportunities," he remarked while inaugurating the 2022 Wonderful Archipelago Golf Tournament at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club.

He invited various parties to collaborate and innovate to prepare for a new economic order, including through golf sports tourism activities that must be organized by implementing the health protocols.

“Golf course in the midst of a pandemic has become an anomaly (because) people's interest in playing golf has in fact increased. For this reason, we are preparing guidelines on health protocols in the field of sport tourism, especially in golf," he said.

Furthermore, several golf tournaments have been held in Bali and Belitung to encourage the establishment of more international standard golf courses in five Super Priority Destinations (DSP), he added.

"We encourage the development of 25 new golf courses in five DSPs until 2025. We will encourage at least five international standard golf courses because golf has a comparative advantage and competitive advantage," Minister Uno said.
