Bandung (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil appealed to travellers venturing on toll roads during the Eid al-Fitr exodus period to spend no more than 30 minutes in rest areas available on toll roads.

"In principle, we need to set the maximum rest time if the rest area is limited, and I believe the 30-minute maximum time will be appropriate. If I need to visit a rest area, 30 minutes is more than sufficient, with five minutes to relieve myself in the toilet, 10 minutes of stretching time, and perhaps another 20 minutes if I decided to eat (in the rest area)," Kamil noted at Gedung Sate here on Tuesday.

The governor remarked that as rest areas on toll roads would be overwhelmed by the sudden influx of travellers, who are breaking their fast every evening, travellers are suggested to ready their food and other essential items in their car to avoid crowding in the rest area.

"I suggest travellers to ready sufficient foods and essential items in their car, so they could break their fast at the toll road even if they could not visit the rest area," Kamil remarked.

In support of Kamil's statement, West Java Police's Deputy Chief Brigadier General Bariza Sulfi also urged travellers to not stay in the rest area for too long, especially before the implementation of the one-way traffic scheme.

Travellers should stay in the rest area for at most 30 minutes, he emphasized while adding that the toll road authority will ensure that rest areas would be vacated before the one-way traffic scheme could be implemented.

"When the one-way traffic scheme applies for travel from Jakarta to Central Java, travellers from Central Java must stay in the rest area for only 30 minutes since before the traffic scheme is enforced, the rest area would be vacated. They must depart the rest area sooner to continue travelling (to Jakarta) through the toll road," Sulfi remarked.

The police deputy chief noted that the one-way traffic scheme on West Java's toll roads would be first enforced on Thursday next week (Apr 28) at 5 p.m. local time (UTC +7), and rest areas in the opposite direction must be vacated by 3 p.m.

"(Before the traffic scheme enforcement) we will patrol (the rest areas), and if travellers want to continue travelling on the toll road, then they must leave the rest area early. If they are late, then they must seek alternative routes," Sulfi affirmed.
