Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno has said that he expects the number of tourists visiting tourism villages to increase 10–25 percent during the 2022 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period.

While visiting Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) here on Saturday, he noted that there are several routes, such as Pantura, which have tourist villages that people can potentially visit.

Visits to tourist villages can also help reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, resulting in less traffic congestion, he added.

Tourists are expected to use tourist villages as temporary rest zones, thereby reducing potential accidents on the road due to exhaustion.

In order to encourage tourists to visit tourist villages, Uno has delivered information concerning the subject at homecoming posts, including through the digital channel.

The posts have been provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in a number of regions.

"These posts also provide tourism and creative economy services as well as showcase Indonesian music to homecomers who may be exhausted and need refreshment," the minister informed.

"Because being too tired will be dangerous," he added.

The effort to reduce traffic can also involve providing cable cars in tourist destinations, such as in Puncak, West Java.

Cable cars are considered an eco-friendly transportation innovation because they do not emit carbon, making them a must-have for tourist destinations.

Therefore, the ministry is striving to realize several cable car initiatives in Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur in Central Java, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, and Puncak.

Later on, the ministry will work with an enterprise to help with budget procurement through public-private partnership (PPP).

"Currently, we have already received several proposals to be analyzed, and we will follow them up later after Eid al-Fitr with concrete steps," the minister said.
