Jember, East Java (ANTARA) - A student of University of Jember's (UNEJ's) Faculty of Law, Avina Nakita Octavia, was one of the five Indonesian youth representatives who attended the 1st ASEAN Youth Dialogue held in Cambodia.

"The ASEAN Youth Dialogue is a platform for the youth of ASEAN countries and South Korea to get to know and become involved in ASEAN-level policymaking discourse," Octavia informed here on Saturday.

During the dialogue, Indonesian student representatives took part in many formal activities, such as participating in ASEAN Talk, a plenary session, a high-level panel discussion, and made policy recommendations during dialogues with ASEAN Youth Ministers and high-level officials.

The policy recommendations from youth delegates will be conveyed to the ASEAN Senior Official Meetings on Youth (SOMY) and SOMY+3, and will serve as inputs for the ASEAN Work Plan on Youth 2021–2025 and the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Plan of Action 2021–2025.

"We discussed a lot of problems that are being faced by the youth in Industrial Revolution 4.0, but did not forget the cultural introduction activities. At the farewell dinner, Indonesian representatives introduced Papuan traditional clothes and the beauty of kebaya," Octavia said.

In addition, Indonesian representatives got to perform the Gemufamire dance from East Nusa Tenggara, she informed.

Through these activities, she claimed, the Indonesian youth became more connected to their counterparts in other countries, not only because they discussed important issues that needed to be solved together but because they came to understand each other through culture.

During the selection process, she wrote an essay entitled Human Capital Development in the Era of Fourth Industrial Revolution: The Role and Digital Innovation which won her a spot as the country's representative.

Her selection as one of Indonesia's representatives at the 1st ASEAN Youth Dialogue was based on her previous achievements, for instance, her experience as the ASEAN Youth Ambassador in 2019.
