Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) drew attention to the need to optimize clean energy resources and the green economy to achieve an inclusive, just, and sustainable Indonesia in future.

"Apart from downstreaming, the optimization of green energy and green economy sources must be developed," the president stated during the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Regional Representatives Assembly (DPD RI) at the Parliament Complex here, Tuesday.

The development of plant nurseries and rehabilitation of tropical and mangrove forests as well as marine habitats will be intensified owing to the vast potential of the natural systems to function as carbon sinks, he stated.

The president highlighted that clean energy from solar, geothermal, wind, ocean waves, and bioenergy resources will also attract manufacturers to commit to developing low-emission products.

"(The) green industry zone in North Kalimantan will become the biggest green industrial park in the world. I believe (that) then we will become a competitive green product manufacturer in the international trade," Jokowi noted.

He pointed out that prudent utilization of marine biodiversity will become the biggest source for food, pharmaceutical, and energy products. Moreover, Indonesia, with plantation products, such as palm oil, emerged as the biggest supplier of crude palm oil (CPO) at the global level, he added.
