Sorong, Southwest Papua (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, in Sorong City on Thursday, inaugurated the Islamic Economy and Finance Committee (KDEKS) of Southwest Papua Province as the first KDEKS in Papua region.

"As the youngest province, Southwest Papua has demonstrated its firm commitment to accelerating the growth of the Islamic economy and actualizing equitable, inclusive, and sustainable welfare," he remarked during the inauguration of the Southwest Papua KDEKS.

He urged Southwest Papua Province to mobilize its potential by involving and empowering local and indigenous people along with their businesses in order to take part in realizing the vision of a smart, healthy, and productive Papua region.

Amin also suggested that the province make the most of its tourism potential to boost its Islamic economy and finance.

In this regard, he drew attention to the tourism appeal of Raja Ampat District, saying that the district should emerge as a world-class halal tourism destination by emulating steps taken by South Korea.

"Southwest Papua has taken a quick step to seize opportunities by establishing the first KDEKS in Papua region," he added.

The vice president then expressed hope that local micro, small, and medium enterprises would be able to enhance the quality of their products to penetrate foreign markets while meeting domestic demands.

To that end, he lauded local governments for their determination and support for the development of the Islamic economy and finance that he deems instrumental for bringing inclusive and sustainable human development to Southwest Papua.

"I hope that initiatives to develop the Islamic economy and finance in Southwest Papua Province would result in concrete impacts on regional development and people's welfare," he added. Related news: Development in Papua Pegunungan is based on regional context: VP
