"I urge the TNI and Polri to maintain stability. Please fully support the transition of government. The government that I lead will be continued by a new administration led by President-elect Prabowo Subianto," he stated on Thursday.
Jokowi highlighted this during a briefing with the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) ranks at the IKN State Palace, East Kalimantan, as accessed from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account.
In the briefing, the president remarked that Indonesia is currently in an important phase.
He then drew attention to the inauguration of the pair of elected candidates in the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to be held on October 20, 2024.
Furthermore, simultaneous regional head elections in November will also be held to elect governors, mayors, and district heads, he added.
"We must be aware. In October, we will have the inauguration of the elected presidential candidate followed by simultaneous regional elections in November," Jokowi remarked.
Hence, the president called on the TNI and Polri officers to maintain political stability in the country.
According to the head of state, minor issues should be resolved immediately to prevent them from disrupting the transition process.
"Make sure this transition process runs well and smoothly. Do not let any disturbance get in the way," he emphasized.
The president called on the TNI and Polri to fully support the regional elections as well as maintain neutrality and a conducive situation.
Moreover, he reminded the ranks of the TNI and Polri to continue to improve their respective images so as to be loved and trusted by the public.
He cautioned that if TNI or Polri officials were to set a bad example for society, such as by being involved in online gambling or drug addiction, then it would have a dire impact on society as well.
