At the beginning of Prabowo’s term in October 2024, the national capacity stood at 190 megawatts (MW). The figure rose to 290 MW as of June 2025.
“In less than a year, the capacity increased by more than 52 percent,” Hafid said at the 2025 Indonesian Digital Economy Finance Festival (FEKDI) and the Indonesia Fintech Summit and Expo (IFSE) on Thursday.
Hafid said the growth reflects the strong confidence of global technology companies investing in Indonesia’s data center development.
She noted that Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto had announced that there were 12 companies from the United States (US) building a data center ecosystem in Indonesia.
The minister affirmed that in the last year, she was invited to inaugurate several data centers, including those owned by Microsoft and Google, as well as a local company, DCI Indonesia.
She further said that as of April 2025, there were 180 data centers operating in Indonesia with various scales. Of the total, eight are categorized as Tier 4, meaning they have the best operational capacity, while three data centers focus on artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is projecting the national data center capacity to increase to 900 MW by the end of 2025 based on land clearing data.
The government is opening the widest opportunities for new investment, given that Indonesia's data center needs are projected to reach around 1.5 gigawatt (GW) up to 2 GW in the next two years.
If the target is achieved, Indonesia has a big potential to become the main digital data hub in the Southeast Asian region.
