"There are many incidents and crimes involving foreigners. Based on our data, in 2025, there were 301 cases involving 309 foreign nationals," said the Director of Community Development of the Bali Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Suwandi Prihantoro, here on Friday.
Although he did not elaborate on the types, methods, or areas most frequently involved in these crimes, he noted that the number of traffic accidents had decreased to 98 incidents involving foreign nationals.
Therefore, Bali Regional Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya invited other stakeholders, namely immigration offices, related agencies, and consulates general from various countries, to a discussion.
"The police cannot solve this problem alone. Therefore, we are involving the local government, agency heads, and immigration authorities to jointly carry out their duties according to their respective fields and functions to maintain a more orderly Bali," Prihantoro stated.
He mentioned that the meeting with consulates was both crucial and urgent, as many criminal cases in Bali involve foreign nationals.
“The consulates and foreign missions were briefed to ensure they can help safeguard their citizens in Bali,” he added.
In addition to the meeting, Prihantoro said all parties agreed to continue joint operations to monitor and control foreign nationals.
"Immigration is the leading sector, and the Bali Regional Police are working with the local government to conduct joint operations to apprehend foreign nationals," he continued.
According to him, the consulates also agreed to appoint a liaison officer (LO) to facilitate faster communication and coordination, aiming to prevent misinformation that could harm Bali’s tourism image.
In 2024, the Bali Regional Police recorded 142 traffic accidents involving foreign nationals, an increase of 35 percent compared to 2023.
The data showed that 21 foreign nationals died, three were seriously injured, 171 sustained minor injuries, and material losses amounted to Rp211 million (US$13 thousand).
