Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI) Peacekeeping Mission Center (PMPP) Major General Iwan Bambang Setiawan reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to ensuring the protection and safety of its personnel serving as United Nations (UN) peacekeepers.

The statement was delivered during his visit to Indonesian peacekeepers from the TNI Mechanized Battalion Task Force Konga XXIII-S who are being treated at St. George Hospital in Beirut after being injured in an attack while serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

“Indonesia is committed to providing protection to all personnel and to actively contributing to global peacekeeping efforts through the deployment of Garuda Contingent troops,” he said in a written statement, confirmed on Sunday.

The visit took place on Saturday (April 4) local time, during which he met three injured personnel still receiving treatment, First Lieutenant Sulthan Wirdean Maulana, Private First Class Rico Pramudia, and Private First Class Deni Rianto.

He also conveyed moral support and prayers for their swift recovery.

His visit to the injured personnel is a form of the state's commitment, especially from TNI leadership, to remain present and attentive to soldiers serving in mission areas.

In addition to the three personnel visited, two other soldiers—Private First Class Bayu Prakoso and Private First Class Arif Kurniawan—were also injured in a security incident while serving under UNIFIL last week.

Indonesia lost three soldiers in Lebanon: Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, who died after being hit by artillery fire on March 29, followed by Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and First Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ikhwan, who were killed when the convoy they were escorting came under attack on March 30.

The Indonesian government strongly condemned the attack on UNIFIL personnel and called for a thorough investigation, while also urging an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council over the incident.
