"On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto instructed the Palace to be open for schoolchildren," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated in Jakarta.
Wijaya said the instruction is consistent with the president's mission to develop and nurture the younger generation by offering them a unique learning experience to study the nation’s history and governance.
Students of Central Jakarta State Vocational High School (SMKN) 19 became the inaugural guests at the Presidential Palace Complex following its official opening.
During the visit, the students were invited to tour the palace and observe where the nation's most important decisions are made, and take part in discussions with opportunities to ask questions.
"Many students said that it was their first time to see the president's room, where the ministers were inaugurated, where the president signs documents, and where the president receives his guests," Wijaya stated regarding the reactions.
He said that President Prabowo hopes the palace visit will inspire students to study diligently and dream big as the government actively supports them through programs such as free nutritious meals, school renovations, and welfare improvements.
All schools in Indonesia are welcome to visit the palaces provided that they register at the State Secretariat Ministry and the Cabinet Secretariat.
The presidential palaces will be open for school visits once or twice a week to accommodate various educational institutions.
Besides the Merdeka Palace and the State Palace in Jakarta, all other presidential palaces in the country will gradually open for student tours.
Indonesia currently has eight presidential palaces located in Jakarta, Bogor, Cianjur, Yogyakarta, Bali, and the new capital of Nusantara.
