Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated an electric commercial vehicle assembly plant operated by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday.

“Today, I inaugurate the VKTR electric commercial vehicle assembly plant,” he said at the ceremony.

The president praised the company and its business group for their long-term vision in supporting national development and industrialization.

He said industrialization is a critical stage in technological advancement, where innovation is transformed into products that deliver broad economic benefits.

Prabowo also emphasized the importance of national self-reliance in strategic sectors, particularly food and energy, noting that energy security is vital for long-term sustainability.

He described the development of the electric vehicle industry as part of the energy transition, aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting cleaner energy.

“This is a historic initiative and a source of national pride,” he said.

The plant has a production capacity of up to 10,000 electric buses, with local content (TKDN) currently at around 40 percent.

The company aims to increase local content to 60 percent within two years and to 80 percent thereafter.

Prabowo said the project marks a significant milestone in Indonesia’s industrial development and pledged continued government support.

“If there are challenges, inform us and we will address them, as this is a very important industry,” he said.

He expressed hope that VKTR will grow into a leading national player in the commercial vehicle sector.

“I hope VKTR becomes one of our national champions. Just as Japan has Isuzu and Hino, and South Korea has Hyundai and Daewoo, I hope Indonesia will soon have VKTR as one of its champions,” he said.
