“God willing, by 2029 we will have installed all units according to plan, bringing the total to 30,” Harjono said at a press conference at Air Force Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.
Currently, TNI AU operates 20 radar units across the country, though several require replacement due to aging infrastructure. The units fall under the Air Force Operation Command (Koopsau).
“We will acquire 25 new radar installations, some of which will replace the existing 20 units that remain in operation despite their age,” Harjono explained.
He emphasized that expanding radar coverage is crucial to optimize Indonesia’s ability to monitor aerial activity, including tracking foreign aircraft entering national airspace.
The chief of staff confirmed that installation and replacement efforts are ongoing, with new radar units planned for blind-spot areas. He expressed confidence that the expansion will significantly enhance Indonesia’s air defense capabilities.
