Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) are pushing for more targeted, integrated, and impactful national research development by strengthening the national research roadmap.

The initiative was highlighted during a meeting between Minister Brian Yuliarto and BRIN Head Arif Satria in Jakarta on Friday.

“We will work together through a collaborative team, including in drafting research proposals in line with the president’s directives,” Yuliarto said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday.

Satria echoed the view, emphasizing that aligning research agendas is key to ensuring the effectiveness of innovation-driven national development.

“Communication must be seamless. There should be no gaps in research stages between institutions, where one party is nearing completion while another is just beginning,” he said.

As a concrete step, the ministry and BRIN are preparing a joint launch of the national research agenda, which will serve as a collaborative mechanism for formulating and funding strategic national research.

The two institutions have also agreed to strengthen the integration of national research monitoring and data systems toward a real-time platform.

Through this system, research activities in universities and research institutions can be monitored in a more integrated manner, supporting data-driven policymaking and improving efficiency in research budget management.

The meeting followed up on President Prabowo Subianto’s directives to focus on national strategic issues, including waste management, energy security, and vaccine development.

The development of research infrastructure was also discussed, including the use of high-performance computing to support cross-sector data analysis and research collaboration, as well as efforts to strengthen international cooperation in strategic technologies.

The meeting also addressed human resource development, particularly the importance of establishing clear career pathways for researchers within universities.

The move is expected to boost national research productivity while strengthening the contribution of higher education institutions to the innovation ecosystem.
