Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology continues to strengthen international partnerships in higher education, research, and human resources development to accelerate economic transformation based on science and technology.

This was highlighted during a meeting between Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto and the United States Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Peter M. Haymond in Jakarta on Thursday (April 16).

Yuliarto asserted that through strategic global collaborations, Indonesia is reaffirming its commitment to boosting national competitiveness while addressing the needs of future industries.

"The primary focus of collaborations is directed toward enhancing human resource quality through international-standard education and research programs," he said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

He explained that these initiatives include the development of dual-degree programs and cross-border collaborative research, which are expected to generate high-impact innovations relevant to national development goals.

To support access to quality education, the ministry is also optimizing various funding schemes, including those through the Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) scholarships.

These schemes offer broader opportunities for Indonesia's top talents to study at world-class universities while strengthening global academic networks.

"We are targeting the development of around 10 semiconductor products and project a need of up to 15,000 engineers. Thus, cooperation with higher education institutions is key," the minister remarked.

In the healthcare sector, the government is also pushing for the establishment of new medical schools to strengthen the nation’s capacity for medical education.

This initiative is expected to meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals while broadening access to medical education across the country.

Yuliarto further said that, in addition to strengthening higher education, the ministry's partnerships also cover educational facilities, including the integration of learning technologies in schools.

These efforts aim to bridge the gap in educational quality and foster a learning ecosystem that is adaptive to technological advancements.
