“I thank the TNI and Polri for your hard work, but please continue strengthening security here. Our goal is to bring the president’s priority programs for the benefit of local communities,” he said.
Speaking during a dialogue at a military district command base in Dekai on April 21, Gibran stressed his visit was focused on ensuring residents can access people-oriented programs initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.
He highlighted key initiatives, including the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, Free Health Screening (CKG), the Red and White Village Cooperatives program, and subsidized housing.
“Security in Yahukimo and surrounding areas is a prerequisite for implementing these programs. There are many initiatives that can be expanded here once stability is ensured,” he said.
Gibran spent around three hours in Yahukimo, reviewing the rollout of the meals program at a Christian school, inspecting facilities at Dekai Regional General Hospital, and meeting families of military personnel stationed in the area.
His visit follows President Prabowo’s directive to prioritize security and stability as the foundation for accelerating the delivery of government programs, particularly in remote and vulnerable regions.
Yahukimo remains prone to security risks linked to armed separatist groups, which have periodically disrupted public services and development efforts in parts of Papua.
Gibran’s visit signals the government’s intention to strengthen its presence and improve service delivery in the region, while ensuring communities benefit from national development programs.
He was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Ribka Haluk, Highland Papua Deputy Governor Ones Pahabol, and Velix Wanggai, head of the executive committee overseeing the acceleration of Papua’s special autonomy development.
