Monitored online from Jakarta on Saturday, President Prabowo told the community of Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih in South Leato, Gorontalo, that the program is aimed at supporting the empowerment of Indonesian fishermen to ensure economic recovery.
"I want our fishermen to prosper. I want them to smile every day because they earn a good income. We will build 1,582 fishing vessels starting this year. We will help them, we will distribute the vessels," Prabowo said.
The vessels will be distributed through fishermen's cooperatives, with a more detailed scheme to be regulated later.
"There will be small, medium, and large vessels," the President added.
The government is also continuing to pursue the development of fishing villages/hamlets, with a target of inaugurating 1,386 villages across Indonesia by the end of 2026.
Prabowo emphasized that the development of fishing villages will also continue in other regions.
The Head of State requested that facilities be built annually in approximately 1,000 villages to support the activities of Indonesian fishermen.
Some of the facilities to be provided under the program include the construction of ice-making facilities, cold storage, and special refueling facilities for fishing vessels.
Shortly before Gorontalo, President Prabowo visited Miangas Island in North Sulawesi and had the opportunity to hand over a 15 gross tonnage (GT) fishing boat with a crew of five.
