Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Bangladesh discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation on halal product assurance and the establishment of a foreign halal certification body in Bangladesh, the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) said on Monday.

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said the enhanced cooperation is an important part of strengthening the global halal ecosystem based on standards, trust, and international collaboration.

“Collaboration with friendly countries is a strategic step toward creating a credible, accountable, and interconnected halal product assurance system, while also bringing benefits to all parties,” Hasan said in a statement in Jakarta.

He said the establishment of a halal institution in Bangladesh is a vital instrument in ensuring the smooth flow of international halal trade while providing protection and certainty for Muslim consumers in Indonesia.

“The mandatory halal implementation in October 2026 is not merely a regulatory requirement, but also momentum to strengthen global halal governance,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Ambassador to Indonesia Tarikul Islam expressed his commitment to supporting the establishment of the halal institution as a sign of readiness and responsibility toward implementing Indonesia’s mandatory halal certification policy, which will take effect in October 2026.

He said the move is important to facilitate the recognition process for halal-certified products from Bangladesh entering the Indonesian market, while also supporting wider access for Indonesian halal products in the Bangladeshi market.
