“I am here today in Kupang to connect with the Indonesian Bethel Church and distribute staple food packages to GBI congregants while extending Ascension Day greetings to Christians here,” he said.
Hasan made the statement after symbolically handing over aid packages containing five kilograms of rice each to 1,000 Christian residents through GBI. The church is expected to distribute the government assistance to congregations across Kupang and nearby areas.
In addition to rice aid, the minister also distributed gifts to several children who confidently interacted with him during the event.
Hasan visited Kupang accompanied by several lawmakers from his National Mandate Party (PAN), including Deputy Chair of House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IV Ahmad Yohan, along with Sigit Purnomo, Eko Patrio, and Verrel Bramasta, who are also known as public figures.
Speaking after accompanying the minister, Rev. Oder Max Sombu, representing the NTT branch of GBI, expressed appreciation and pride over the visit.
“Since its establishment, this is the first time GBI has been visited by a minister, which makes us very proud,” he said.
He added that the rice packages would be distributed to GBI congregants and other residents in need through designated churches.
Meanwhile, Anita, a member of the Kupang District branch of GBI, also expressed gratitude for the assistance.
“I would like to thank the minister and his team for helping us,” she said.
