Bandung (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway service, Whoosh, sold around 53,000 tickets for trips during the May 13-17 long holiday period linked to Ascension Day and the weekend, operator KCIC said on Friday.

“Passenger numbers are expected to keep rising until the holiday ends. People are advised to buy tickets online before arriving at the station,” KCIC Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa said in Bandung, West Java.

She said a surge in travelers became apparent on May 13, when occupancy rates for afternoon and evening departures reached 95 percent.

“Most passengers are residents using the long holiday to travel from Jakarta to Bandung and nearby areas for vacations,” she said.

Chairunisa said the increase in passengers was supported by a gradual rise in daily trips from 14 services to 28, 36, 40, 48, and eventually 62.

She said passengers were attracted by the railway’s short travel times, comfort, and punctuality, describing Whoosh as Southeast Asia’s first high-speed rail service.

Chairunisa thanked the public for its enthusiasm and confidence in Whoosh, saying the trend reflected trust in modern, fast, and comfortable transportation.

“This holiday has become a special moment for many families to travel together. We hope Whoosh remains part of memorable holiday experiences for passengers,” she said.

She also advised travelers to plan routes and travel times carefully when heading to Halim Station because of heavier traffic during the holiday period.

“Passengers should arrive at least 30 minutes before departure for comfort and punctuality,” she said.
