Umikun Latifah, head of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency, said the move follows Presidential Instruction No. 17 of 2025 mandating accelerated cooperative development in villages nationwide.
“Preparing these assets requires strict verification processes to avoid disrupting public services. This initiative also aligns with a circular from the Home Affairs Ministry on the use of idle assets belonging to regional governments,” she stated in the provincial capital of Kendari on Friday.
According to her, the assets comprise 10 in Kendari, eight in Konawe, five in South Konawe, five in Kolaka, three in Bombana, three in East Kolaka, two in North Kolaka, two in North Konawe, two in Baubau, two in Central Buton, and two in Muna.
Additionally, one asset has been identified in the Konawe Islands District and another in the West Muna District.
“The assets take the form of idle land plots, ex-offices, community health center buildings, and type B bus terminals that have yet to be optimized,” Latifah said, referring to terminals typically serving trips between regions within a province.
Meanwhile, Laode Muhammad Shalihin, head of the Southeast Sulawesi Office of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), emphasized that his team will provide intensive guidance to cooperative operators to ensure productive use of the assets.
“Cooperatives will be directed to develop businesses related to agriculture, trade, fisheries, and local MSMEs to sustainably strengthen people’s welfare,” he remarked.
Citing government data, Shalihin highlighted that Southeast Sulawesi is projected to host at least 764 KDMP units, with 64 already completing physical construction while work continues on the remaining facilities.
He detailed that 16 village cooperatives have been fully established in South Konawe, 10 in Konawe, seven in Kolaka, and six in West Muna, among other regions.
Each KDMP is designed to feature key facilities such as a grocery outlet, clinic, pharmacy, warehouse, and savings and loan counter, Shalihin added.
At a national coordination meeting on Wednesday (May 13), Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono reported that the government had launched construction for 37,327 village cooperatives nationwide, with 8,927 already completed.
He also noted that President Prabowo Subianto envisions 30,000 KDMP units operating by July this year.
