During the meeting at Megawati's residence in Jakarta, Ambassador Al-Yassin praised Indonesia's historical leadership, particularly the 1955 Asian-African Conference.
He also praised Indonesia's leadership through the "Bandung Spirit" of the 1955 Asian-African Conference, which promoted solidarity, peace, and anti-colonialism and contributed to Kuwait's independence movement.
According to a statement by PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto on Tuesday, the ambassador emphasized Indonesia's vital position in the Global South and lauded its unwavering support for Palestine, labeling the situation there as "the last form of colonialism on earth."
Megawati responded by highlighting Indonesia's important role during the Asian-African Conference.
"One of the most important points in the Asian-African Conference agreement was the support for Palestinian independence," Megawati stated.
The discussion also covered the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Megawati expressed profound sympathy for the victims of the regional instability.
"As a mother, I feel deep sadness over the uncertain impact of war on the fates of children and mothers in conflict-torn countries," Megawati said.
Ambassador Al-Yassin said Kuwait had made clear that it was not a party to the conflict and rejected the use of its territory or airspace as a launching point for attacks on neighboring countries.
The ambassador said Kuwait had faced attacks over the past two months that targeted civilian infrastructure, including airports, oil facilities, water treatment plants, and government buildings.
He said the attacks were carried out by Iran and violated the United Nations Charter and international law.
"We hope Indonesia, with its respected international position, can help support efforts to realize peace in the Middle East," Al-Yassin said.
The meeting also discussed possible solutions to the Middle East conflict, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which the ambassador described as vital to global energy market stability.
