but the government wants to cooperate
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called for synergy between business community and government institutions to strengthen cooperation to drive the national economy amid the global crisis.

"Businessmen and the government must cooperate. I remind you, workers, do not just keep making demands, right? The businessmen are also working hard and getting headaches. We understand they have to pay bank credits, but the government wants to cooperate," Prabowo said in his speech at the parliamentary complex here on Wednesday.

Prabowo said solid synergy among the government; private sector; micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs); and regional governments is the main key creating extraordinary economic prosperity for all Indonesian people.

The government is committed to provide various social protection instruments, he added, in order to mitigate and alleviate the financial burden faced by domestic business actors.

In addition, the government is opening up channels of communication for entrepreneurs experiencing operational constraints to immediately submit official reports, so that joint solutions can be found.

Prabowo emphasized the government is ready to provide assistance in the form of temporary tax rate reductions for business actors affected by the crisis, although such a policy cannot be provided continuously.

Through the mix of fiscal policies and the strengthening of cross-sectoral cooperation, domestic economic stability is considered to remain well-maintained, similar to Indonesia's success in navigating previous global crises.

He also presented projections from a number of experts and international institutions estimating that Indonesia's position will leap to become the fourth or fifth-largest economic power in the world by 2045.

This massive growth is projected to enable Indonesia to surpass the gross domestic product (GDP) of several developed countries in Europe, such as the United Kingdom, France, and Italy, within the next 19 years.

Nevertheless, President Prabowo reminded all parties not to be overly complacent and to remain focused on eliminating all forms of irregularities in economic governance to optimize national growth potential.
