Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Jakarta on Wednesday as the two countries sought closer cooperation in trade, defense, and regional security.

In a post on his social media account on Wednesday, Sugiono described Indonesia and Turkiye as nations bound by solidarity and longstanding cooperation.

“Indonesia highly appreciates Turkiye’s steadfast support and solidarity in defending our shared principles,” he said.

The post included photographs showing Sugiono welcoming Fidan upon arrival and shaking hands after the Turkish foreign minister disembarked from a government aircraft.

Fidan is visiting Indonesia to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening trade and defense ties, and addressing regional and global security challenges.

Discussions are expected to cover cooperation in sectors aligned with commitments made by leaders of both countries, according to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Fidan is also expected to emphasize deeper cooperation in infrastructure, energy, transportation, digitalization, artificial intelligence, high technology, and halal industries.
