Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Thursday that, in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive, the establishment of non-boarding top schools through the Integrated National School program is being accelerated this year.
"This year, we plan to build 100 Integrated National Schools, and proposals have already been submitted from 36 schools that we have selected," Mu'ti said.
Of the target, five schools are planned to be established at education centers under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
"In addition, one school will be built in Nusantara Capital City (IKN), and nine new schools will be constructed in selected regions," he added.
The Integrated National School program is one of the government's initiatives to ensure equal access to quality education.
The schools are intended to serve high-achieving students from all segments of society in an inclusive manner.
The development of Integrated National Schools is planned through two approaches, which are constructing new schools and upgrading existing ones.
New school construction will be carried out by the central government and through partnerships with the private sector, under a scheme in which private entities finance the construction while the central government covers operational costs.
On the occasion, Mu'ti also reported the progress of the school revitalization program this year to President Prabowo.
The improvement of school facilities in 2025 has reached 16,167 educational institutions, in line with the target set by the government.
This year, the government aims to revitalize a total of 71,744 educational institutions or schools across Indonesia, comprising 11,744 institutions funded through a Rp14 trillion budget approved by the House of Representatives (DPR), along with an additional planned 60,000 institutions.
