Indonesian Aquatics Federation (PB AI) Chair Harlin Erlianto Rahardjo said in Denpasar on Thursday (June 11) that Bahrain’s confirmation of one athlete and two officials raised the number of participating countries to 18.
He noted that the championship would involve 127 individuals, including 49 officials, with Indonesia fielding four athletes for men's events and two athletes for women's competitions.
“Most participants are fascinated by Jimbaran Beach’s beauty; some have already begun training,” Rahardjo remarked, adding that trials were held on June 11-12.
Komang Takuaki Banuarta, head of PB AI’s Bali office, stressed that preparations were complete with support from various institutions, including the National SAR Agency and the National Police’s Water and Air Corps.
He added the championship also features an open series for non-athletes, drawing about 300 contenders, 91 from Bali.
The tournament is expected to boost Indonesia’s sports tourism and further enhance Bali’s appeal.
