In a statement received here on Friday, Yuliarto said that cooperation between the two countries has made significant contributions to the development of Indonesian talent through various education and scholarship programs.
“Fundamentally, we seek to build closer partnerships with Australian universities to deliver world-class education and research, while strengthening Indonesia’s innovation capacity and competitiveness,” he said.
The minister expressed hope that integrated cooperation in higher education, research, and innovation involving various stakeholders could generate more tangible benefits for society in the future.
He also pointed out several national development priorities that require support from higher education, science, and technology, especially energy security, food security, sustainable natural resource management, and industrial downstreaming.
“In the energy sector, Indonesia is promoting greater national energy self-sufficiency through the development of more efficient, safe, and sustainable energy technologies, as well as increased utilization of research and innovation outcomes to support the energy transition,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Chief Scientist Tony Haymet said there are numerous opportunities to strengthen cooperation in science, research, and innovation.
The collaboration opportunities include strengthening research infrastructure, increasing investment in research and development (R&D), utilizing research outcomes, and enhancing partnerships among universities, research institutions, and governments.
He also reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to educational cooperation through the Australia Awards Scholarships program, which provides more than 760 scholarships annually for Indonesian students, including 10 postgraduate scholarships for principals and teachers of Garuda Schools.
In addition, Yuliarto and Haymet explored opportunities for the involvement of leading Australian scientists, including Nobel laureates, in scientific forums and international conferences in Indonesia, to strengthen academic networks and research collaboration between the two nations.
