At a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, he conveyed the government's target to complete the renovations of 77,000 schools this year.
The program will then be expanded to 100,000 schools each in 2027 and 2028.
"We are not complacent; we still have a long way to go, but we want to repair all our schools. This year, we will complete 77,000 renovated schools. Next year, our target is 100,000 schools, and in 2028, 100,000 schools. We hope that by 2029, all schools in Indonesia will have been renovated," he pointed out.
The head of state said the government will channel school renovation funds directly to principals to accelerate the program's implementation.
This mechanism will be accompanied by oversight by a school committee involving parents, teachers, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure transparent and targeted budget use, he continued.
"We will send the money directly to the principal, overseen by the parent committee, the teacher committee, and others," Prabowo explained.
According to him, the direct fund disbursement scheme has shown positive results, based on reports received by the government.
Prabowo said he had confirmed the program's implementation with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, who expressed confidence in its execution.
"It turns out the results are very good. If I'm not mistaken, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education is here, so the feedback you've received is quite good," he remarked.
On the occasion, the president emphasized the government's commitment to speeding up upgrades to educational infrastructure as part of efforts to improve education quality and create more conducive learning environments nationwide.
