For the government, Qodari said the Masela Block project, marked by the groundbreaking ceremony last week, represents a concrete step to strengthen national energy security.
"Energy security is not only about having abundant natural resources. More importantly, it is about ensuring that the public and businesses have access to a reliable and sustainable energy supply capable of supporting long-term economic growth," Qodari stated, as quoted from Bakom's statement released on Tuesday.
He explained that the Masela Block, one of Indonesia's largest gas reserves, holds an estimated 18.54 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
"The project is expected to produce around 9.5 million tons of LNG annually," he added.
According to him, the gas production will become one of the key pillars in meeting the country's energy needs.
He noted that a more secure energy supply would provide greater certainty for businesses to expand, improve production efficiency, and strengthen downstream industrial development across various sectors.
Moreover, Qodari emphasized that the benefits of the Masela Block project extend beyond the energy sector.
"This project will become a driver of economic growth, especially in eastern Indonesia. It will encourage new investment, increase state revenue, accelerate infrastructure development, and expand opportunities for local communities to enhance their skills and participate in various economic," he remarked.
According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Masela Block development requires an investment of around US$20.9 billion, or approximately Rp352 trillion.
The national strategic project is projected to generate direct state revenue of around US$37.8 billion, in addition to potential indirect tax revenue of US$6.43 billion.
