The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti said the SNT curriculum is designed to strengthen students' foreign language proficiency, digital technology skills, and global outlook while ensuring they remain grounded in the country's values and cultural heritage.
"We want students to develop competencies that are relevant to the changing times, while still rooted in the noble values and culture of the Indonesian nation," Mu'ti said here on Tuesday.
He explained the SNT will continue to anchor its foundation in the national curriculum; ensuring that national standards, learning objectives, and core outcomes remain central to teaching and learning while incorporating a deep learning approach.

The core national framework, he added, will be enriched by a tailored school-based curriculum that reflects each institution's distinct identity, vision, and signature programmes to address the specific needs of its students and community.
These may include Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Sports (STEAMS); leadership; and foreign language programmes.
In addition, the Ministry will integrate the national curriculum with a locally based curriculum that incorporates regional potential, local wisdom, and culture as meaningful learning resources. The SNT will also emphasise digitalised learning and globally enriched education.
The Ministry has planned to establish and operate the SNT at the junior and senior secondary levels in 17 districts and cities this year.
To support the establishment, the Ministry is preparing transition classes by utilising facilities at its technical implementation units and other spaces provided by regional governments, while the new SNT school buildings are under construction.
