"This success in penetrating international markets demonstrates our ability to compete on the global stage," Head of Aquaculture and Fisheries Product Competitiveness Irma Listiawati said on Wednesday.
During the first half of 2026, East Kalimantan exported a total of 1,446 tons of fishery commodities.
According to Irma, the province's fishery exports generated more than Rp261 billion (US$14 million) in foreign exchange earnings.
"Ultimately, this is aimed at improving the welfare of fishermen and increasing the market value of their catch," she said.
Five major marine commodities dominated East Kalimantan's exports during the first six months of the year, led by tiger prawns, which reached an export volume of 863.9 tons with a total value of Rp192.9 billion (US$10 million).
"The strong international demand for tiger prawns has significantly helped maintain economic stability while consistently benefiting coastal communities," Irma said.
These products have been exported to Vietnam, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia, India, Taiwan, Singapore, and Australia.
Irma said international buyers' confidence in the freshness of East Kalimantan's seafood products is supported by strict quality assurance measures conducted before export.
From January to June 2026, the government facilitated the issuance of 1,072 export quality assurance certificates to support fishermen.
The certification confirms that the province's seafood products comply with international quality standards, helping meet regulatory requirements and reducing the risk of rejection at destination ports.
"We remain committed to facilitating access to export logistics services in order to strengthen the fisheries business ecosystem in this region," she said.
