The increase for Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) personnel is stipulated under Presidential Regulation No. 42 of 2026 on performance allowances for TNI employees.
Performance allowance increases for Defense Ministry employees are separately governed under Presidential Regulation No. 43 of 2026.
Defense Ministry Information Bureau Chief Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait said on Thursday that the ministry had received copies of both presidential regulations.
“The policy will be implemented in accordance with the prevailing regulations,” Rico said.
The new regulations, signed by Prabowo this month, replace Presidential Regulations No. 102 of 2018 and No. 104 of 2018.
“Since 2018, the Defense Ministry and TNI have not received any adjustment to the performance allowance index, even as their responsibilities have expanded,” Rico said, citing disaster response, food security, remote-area development and security operations.
He said the higher allowances reflected government recognition of the military's expanding duties and improvements in bureaucratic reform.
“The Defense Ministry welcomes the policy as recognition of the government's bureaucratic reform achievements and the improved performance of the ministry and the TNI,” Rico said.
He said the adjustment was expected to encourage personnel to strengthen professionalism, accountability and public service.
Under the new regulations, performance allowances are determined by job classification, with payments varying according to each employee's or soldier's rank and position.
For TNI personnel, the allowance for Job Class 1, generally covering the lowest-ranking soldiers, was raised to Rp2.5 million (about US$138) from roughly Rp1.9 million (about US$105).
That represents an increase of about Rp600,000 (approximately US$33).
Allowances for Job Classes 2 through 8 now range from Rp2,931,100 (about US$162) to Rp5,472,100 (about US$303).
Personnel in Job Classes 9 through 11 will receive between Rp6,276,600 (about US$347) and Rp9,852,300 (about US$545).
Job Classes 12 through 14 will receive between Rp11,133,000 (about US$616) and Rp19,485,000 (about US$1,078). Job Class 15 receives Rp21,690,000 (about US$1,200), Job Class 16 Rp30,058,800 (about US$1,663), and Job Class 17 Rp37,395,000 (about US$2,069).
Three-star officers, including the TNI Chief of General Staff and deputy service chiefs, will receive Rp44,874,000 (about US$2,483).
Four-star officers, including the chiefs of the armed services, will receive the highest performance allowance of Rp48,613,500 (about US$2,690).
