The agreement was finalized during a high-level bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace on Monday, marking a key milestone in Prime Minister Charnvirakul’s official state visit to Jakarta on August 3–4.
Central to the enhanced partnership is the reactivation and optimization of bilateral channels, primarily the Indonesia-Thailand High-Level Committee and the Indonesia-Thailand Security Dialogue.
"We encourage the continued optimization of existing mechanisms to strengthen cooperation on security and defense issues," President Prabowo said.
Both leaders identified cross-border crime—ranging from human trafficking and drug trafficking to online scam syndicates—as a mutual security priority requiring decisive joint action.
During the meeting, President Prabowo expressed gratitude to the Thai government for its assistance in rescuing and repatriating nearly 1,000 Indonesian citizens targeted by cross-border online scam syndicates.
“This is very meaningful assistance. It demonstrates the strong relationship between Indonesia and Thailand. On behalf of the Indonesian nation and people, I express my deepest gratitude and appreciation," Prabowo stated.
In response, Prime Minister Charnvirakul confirmed that approximately 500 additional Indonesian victims currently remain in Thailand awaiting clearance, pledging that his administration will expedite their safe return.
To prevent future cases, the two nations agreed to step up operational cooperation through real-time intelligence exchange, joint criminal investigations, and tracking suspicious cross-border financial flows to dismantle organized crime networks.
Furthermore, President Prabowo voiced support for establishing a Transnational Referral Mechanism (TRM) to ensure rapid identification, enhanced legal protection, as well as safe, dignified returns for trafficking victims.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Charnvirakul highlighted three primary security challenges facing both nations: online fraud, human trafficking, and illicit drug networks.
He pledged that Thailand would strengthen law enforcement capacity and intelligence sharing to combat these threats.
