Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman and regional officials have sent about 30 tons of humanitarian aid to earthquake-hit communities in East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT).

Andi Sudirman said in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi Province, on Wednesday that the aid would be transported by an Indonesian Air Force Hercules aircraft.

“About 30 tons, along with hundreds of kilograms of medicine, have been collected for our fellow Indonesians in East Nusa Tenggara affected by the earthquake,” he said.

He thanked the South Sulawesi regional leadership forum, including the military, police, prosecutors, airport operator, and other agencies, as well as companies’ corporate social responsibility programs.

Andi Sudirman also thanked Sultan Hasanuddin Air Base for helping transport the aid aboard an Indonesian Air Force Hercules aircraft.

He said the humanitarian aid drive would continue, with additional supplies to be distributed gradually to communities in need.

The Air Force will deliver the aid to three locations, including Labuan Bajo and Maumere, from where supplies can more easily reach earthquake-affected areas in East Nusa Tenggara.

Andi Sudirman also urged all parties to pray for people affected by the disaster in East Nusa Tenggara.

“Hopefully, this aid, as a sign of solidarity among Indonesians, can ease their burden and accelerate recovery,” he said.
