Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - Indonesian police evacuated the body of a 33-year-old South African man found dead in an apartment room in Bandung City, West Java, police said on Thursday.

Bandung City Police Spokeswoman Adjunct Commissioner Nurindah Murdiani said the man, identified by his initials LS, was found on Wednesday (Aug 19) evening after several witnesses noticed an unpleasant odor coming from the room where LS was staying.

"We have questioned three witnesses, and the body has been evacuated," Nurindah said, adding that the witnesses went to the man's apartment room at the Jarrdin complex after noticing the foul smell coming from inside.

When witnesses arrived, the apartment was locked from the inside, prompting two witnesses to open the door using a key obtained from the apartment agent, she said.

"After witness III opened the door, he saw LS lying on the floor, already dead and emitting an odor," she said.

One of the witnesses then contacted the police to report the discovery of the foreign national's body, Nurindah said.

Based on an initial examination, LS was believed to have died from an illness, possibly a heart attack, she said.

"He is suspected of having died from a heart attack. Witness I immediately contacted police," Nurindah said.

LS's body was taken to Sartika Asih Hospital in Bandung for further examination.
