The surgery was performed by a neurosurgeon from RSUD Embung Fatimah together with a team from the Mahar Mardjono National Brain Center Hospital (RS PON), through the Cerebral Aneurysm Clipping Proctoring Program.
"Today we saw a clipping surgery that previously had to be done outside Batam City. With the doctors and facilities now available, patients no longer need to be referred to Medan or Jakarta," Sadikin remarked here on Friday.
He said the service not only makes things easier for patients, but also for their families, as they no longer need to leave Batam for treatment.
"It's more comfortable because the family is also here, and we can speed up the handling time. Because stroke needs to be treated quickly," he said.
He said performing the surgery at a district or city-level hospital has marked an important development in equal access to health services, as the procedure was previously only available at provincial hospitals.
"I actually saw this clipping surgery performed for the first time at the district or city level. So I am truly impressed and wanted to come see it, because this saves lives," he said.
Sadikin visited a patient in the inpatient ward who had undergone the surgery, accompanied by the Director of RSUD Embung Fatimah, the surgeon, and other officials.
He expressed hope that in the future, 80-90 percent of stroke patients can be treated at RSUD Embung Fatimah without needing to leave the city.
RSUD Embung Fatimah Director Raden Roro Sri Widjayanti Suryandari said the surgery was the first ever performed in Riau Islands.
"This is a surgery that has never been performed at all in Riau Islands. This is the only one so far in Riau Islands, namely brain blood vessel clipping," she said.
