Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has offered 32 strategic transportation and infrastructure projects valued at Rp207.64 trillion (approximately US$11.86 billion) to Japanese corporate investors to deepen bilateral economic partnerships.

The project pipeline was presented during the Indonesia–Japan Transportation and Infrastructure Business Forum and Business Matching 2026, held in Tokyo on August 27–28.

Organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the forum brought together project leaders from nine Indonesian state-owned and regional enterprises (SOEs and ROEs) with 50 representatives from 36 major Japanese companies and financial institutions.

Deputy Ambassador of Indonesia to Japan, Maria Renata Hutagalung, highlighted that the nearly seven-decade-long investment relationship between both nations focuses on sustainable, high-quality developments such as the Jakarta MRT and Patimban Port.

"What distinguishes Japanese investment in Indonesia is never solely about value, but rather the quality of engineering, discipline in project completion, transfer of technology, and a willingness to establish long-term partnerships," Maria said in a press release issued on Tuesday.

Approximately 75 percent of the offered portfolio consists of brownfield projects with operational track records and established revenue streams, including asset monetization, expansion plans, and equity divestments.

The investment portfolio includes 12 road and toll road projects, 10 property and residential development projects, six railway and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) projects, alongside two projects each for maritime ports, logistics, and steel fabrication facilities.

To de-risk foreign capital, the government is facilitating various investment frameworks—ranging from public-private partnerships (PPPs) and joint ventures to concessions and long-term leases—backed by government guarantees through PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (PII) and long-term financing via PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI).

Deputy for Coordination of SOE Management and Development at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Ferry Irawan, briefed attendees on Indonesia's solid economic fundamentals, noting that first-half 2026 economic growth reached 5.61 percent with annual inflation at 3.34 percent.

Overall investment realization during the period exceeded Rp1,010 trillion (US$57.71 billion).

Major Japanese institutions participating in the business matching sessions included Toyota Tsusho, Sumitomo Corporation, Obayashi, Shimizu, Penta-Ocean, Tokyu, JR East, Tokyo Metro, Mitsubishi Electric, Mizuho Bank, SMBC, as well as official development bodies JICA and JETRO.
