“The Bahari Festival will help increase tourist visits. This is positive and should stimulate the local economy,” said Endro Mukti Wibowo, an economic and development official.
The festival will be centered in the area behind the North Kepulauan Seribu District Office, he said in a statement quoted here Tuesday.
The event will feature competitions involving fishermen and tourists, offering activities designed to showcase the district’s maritime attractions.
Planned activities include Gema Seribu, parallel slalom jet skiing, stand-up paddleboarding, speed racing, mangrove planting, island cleanups, and live music performances.
The festival will offer a maritime experience combining sports, entertainment, recreation, and culinary activities, Endro said.
“We hope the festival will encourage greater awareness and concrete action to preserve the marine environment,” Endro said.
Fahmi Ardi Ramlan, head of the district’s Tourism and Creative Economy Office, said Kepulauan Seribu remains a popular destination because its proximity to mainland Jakarta makes it easily accessible.
National holidays and weekends provide opportunities for people to explore the area’s various tourist destinations, he said.
Fahmi said strong tourist interest in Kepulauan Seribu could continue supporting the tourism sector and the local economy.
“We hope the event will stimulate the local economy while encouraging tourists to help keep the environment clean,” Fahmi said.
