BNPB Head Suharyanto said on Wednesday that, as of September 6, firefighting operations remained active across 939.45 hectares in the six provinces.
“Operations in the six priority provinces have received the largest share of resources, given the extensive areas affected and the significant impact on air quality and community activities,” he said.
Suharyanto said the largest areas still affected were in South Sumatra, covering 341.7 hectares, followed by Riau with 283.35 hectares and South Kalimantan with 116.3 hectares.
West Kalimantan had 97.8 hectares still affected, followed by Central Kalimantan with 91.3 hectares and Jambi with 9 hectares, he said.
To support ground task forces comprising BNPB, Regional Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD), military, police, Manggala Agni firefighters and volunteers, BNPB is operating 19 helicopters and aircraft for patrols and weather modification operations.
BNPB is also deploying 36 helicopters for water-bombing operations. Three additional Chinook helicopters from the Defense Ministry are scheduled to arrive on September 10 to intensify aerial firefighting.
Despite challenges including peatland terrain, limited water access and strong winds, Suharyanto praised ground task forces for their efforts, which have helped extinguish most fire hotspots.
