Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Bali exported a total of 402.2 tons of fish estimated at 1.82 million US dollars in the eleven months in the January-November 2010 period, in volume it was a 34.93 percent increase, and terms of value it is a 83.49 percent increase from last year`s corresponding period.

In the previous year Bali earned a foreign exchange of 993.573 US dollars for the shipment of 297.9 tons of carp of the local fishermen, Head of the Bali fishery and marine affairs agency I Gusti Putu Nuriatha said here Saturday.

He said carp is only one of the eleven fish and marine commodities which had been exported.

Bali gained foreign exchange from the trade of fish and marine commodities worth 107.15 million US dollars in last year`s 11 months, up by 13.28 pct compared to last year`s corresponding period of 94.59 million US dollars.

Gusti Nuriatha said the frozen and fresh carp had been exported to Japan, the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany and The Netherlands.

Therefore carp played an important role in increasing Bali`s non-oil exports besides ten other fish species like live aquarium fish, crabs, kerapu, tuna, shrimp and seaweed.

The fishermen`s income and fresh water fish breeding in Bali has reached an average of Rp16.6 million, which may be increased to Rp18.6 million up to the end of 2011.(*)
