"It is some progress, although rather late. But better late than never, or later,"
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former leader of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Erry Riana Hardjapamekas believed that the Presidential Instruction on intensified solution of the case of graft suspect Gayus Halomoan Tambunan although rather too late, is a progress.

"It is some progress, although rather late. But better late than never, or later," Erry Riana said here on Monday.

He added that the President has started to have guts without in any way intervening the legal process. "(And if the President) issues an even firmer order, the Police will undoubtedly carry it out in accordance with the law and police ethics".

Earlier, ICW legal division coordinator Febri Diansyah said that the Presidential Instruction on solving the tax mafia case involving graft suspect Gayus and the Bank Century case is already firm and concrete, although some of the instructions are still general and difficult to measure their rate of success.

In the meantime, the defense attorney of Gayus Halomoan Tambunan, Pia Nasution, when asked to comment on the Presidential Instruction in response to the urges of the people to lend a helping hand in following up the tax mafia case did not say much.

"Let us just wait and see what will happen," she said.

The President has issued 12 points to law enforcers and government authorities to solve the alleged tax mafia case involving Gayus Halomoan Tambunan.

The President also issued the four instructions on solving the case of Bank Century, in which law enforcers were told to immediately carry out all the activities in response to the result of the House special committee on the regulations according to the House conclusion and also carried out at Bank Indonesia.

The President asked for the restoration and return of the assets of Bank Century which may have been transferred to a certain country. "Whenever necessary, I will prepare a presidential note for the government of the certain country for cooperation according to the UN Convention. The team for the restoration and return of the assets needs the assistance of experts on the certain country in question, for an effective and early return of the assets". (*)
